What is the Fortum Forerunner Graduate trainee programme all about?

The programme offers you who are a future technical and business professional an outstanding chance of stepping into working life and obtaining valuable experience in Fortum's various fields of expertise. The duration of the programme is 18 months, from January 2011 to August 2012, but all the trainees are recruited with permanent job contract. The idea of the programme is to recruit future professionals for us as well as give you an opportunity to build a Fortum level network.

As a Trainee, you are recruited in your home division and for certain positions, but during the programme, you will rotate and work in 2 different units. Experiences from different business fields will be shared and reflected in joint workshops and corporate level trainings, giving you a good idea of Fortum's various operations. We offer learning and development possibilities e.g. in the fields of renewable, electricity distribution, project engineering, dam safety operations, IT and trading.

The 18 month programme is divided in three 6 month modules and the second half a year of the programme will be spent in another unit and possibly in a different country. You will be provided a mentorship throughout the programme.

Who are we looking for?

To apply for the programme you should already have graduated, because the work requires considerable commitment. In general we are looking for applicants with fresh Master's degree preferably in the field of Business/Economics, Technology/Engineering or Information Technology but also other majors are welcome to apply if you see your study background relevant. Fluent English skill is a requirement since the working language of the programme is English. Some positions also require local language skills.

If you will be selected for the programme you will receive a unique opportunity for jump-starting your career, but will also be asked to give a lot. We are looking for certain types of personalities: initiative, an eagerness to see things through and the desire and ability to work together and in a group are important characteristics for the applicants. Moreover, some divisions might emphasize slightly different characteristics. International affairs are topical points of interest for Fortum, so in addition to the relevant study background you as a Forerunner trainee should also have some international experience (e.g. exchange studies) and flexibility to work in a variety of environments.

All Fortum employees should act according to our values (which you can find on our web pages). Take a look and see if you can identify to our values. If you find them suitable for you, you could have what it takes become a Forerunner Trainee!
